About Us

In 2002 drugs, alcohol, suicide, and mental illness stole three teens from their respective families and friends in the Westlake community. A call to action went out seeking solutions to prevent future deaths and a core group of dedicated volunteers formed to explore remedies.

Each founding member brought professional skills to the table and formed a parent-led community group called the Westlake Parent Connection (WPC). The WPC launched parent education programs addressing issues that most closely touched their community: mental health, drug and underage alcohol abuse, internet safety, dating violence, self destructive behaviors, understanding the teenage brain and more.

The WPC founders soon recognized that kids and their risky behaviors did not pay attention to geographic boundaries so they rallied neighboring communities to join efforts to educate parents about our youth and their vulnerability to harmful behavior. In 2005, an umbrella organization - the Parent to Parent Network - was launched and became a 501(c) (3) nonprofit in 2008.

Today the P2PN organizes affiliates in 20 communities in Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lorain counties. The parent2parentnetwork.org website averages over 3,500 visits a MONTH; the email membership is over 2,100; and programs and events are recognized as relevant and thought provoking.

The P2PN founders have worked tirelessly and voluntarily for over six years to grow healthy communities free from drug abuse, underage use, and violence and our efforts continue to gain increased recognition throughout Greater Cleveland; organizations such as Cuyahoga County Community Mental Health Board, Lorain County Board of Mental Health’s Children & Adolescent Services, Cleveland Metropolitan School District, Lakewood Hospital Teen health Center, Community Challenge, Recovery Resources, Drug-Free Action Alliance, Northeast Action Network, Voices for Ohio’s Children, Shaker Heights Prevention Coalition, Bellefaire Social Advocates for Youth, Westlake City Schools, and National Alliance on Mental Illness of Greater Cleveland have eagerly sought assistance from us to help them reach out to parents through our established network.
